We wish that we could say that Virginia Republican Senate candidate George Allen had answered questions regarding what he would and wouldn't do to preserve, protect and defend the Right to Keep and Bear Arms if elected to the US Senate. However, after 4 attempts to contact candidate Allen's press secretary, Katie Wright, with no reply, we've concluded they are uninterested in publicly stating a position on the 2nd Amendment or the Right to Keep and Bear Arms. We believe that it is foolish for candidates and campaign staff to avoid questions to a core constituency such as 2nd Amendment activists & supporters. The failure to answer questions on 2nd Amendment & Right to Keep and Bear Arms issues is, itself, an answer and it's a bad one for everyone concerned about RKBA issues.
Practically all candidates publicly state that they "support the Right to Keep and Bear Arms" even those who have never supported a pro-RKBA bill or law. Thus, the afore mentioned phrase is utterly worthless as a gauge for what a candidate thinks, believes or will do. Candidates and their staff who duck specific RKBA questions and answers cannot be trusted to preserve, protect & defend our rights. Ultimately this tells the voters that while the candidate may talk a good game, when bill sponsorship or support is on the line, the candidate will find a way to do nothing.
Of course if Candidate Allen chooses to give his thoughts on his support for the 2nd Amendment & the Right to Keep and Bear Arms our invitation stands.
Full disclosure: Gunleaders.com has previously dealt with George Allen on RKBA issues, particularly the effort to end the National Parks & Wildlife Refuge’s ban on self defense. Senator Allen's record on that issue includes overwhelming constituent demand, many meetings, calls and emails, yet he refused any action until a bill was introduced on the Senate floor with no chance of being heard.
